Detox and rehabilitation are different; detox is a medically supervised environment that aims to quickly (usually within a week) clear the patent’s body of toxins. Special medications are utilized that make withdrawal symptoms more tolerable. Rehabilitation aims to solidify all gains made after the detox process. Addiction is as much physical as it is mental, so rehabilitation aims to correct the mental “side” of recovery treatment. Rehabilitation utilizes counseling and 24 hour care that helps a patient learn root causes of their addiction, emotional triggers that cause cravings, and important coping mechanisms to help them say no to substance going forward.
