Detox and rehabilitation in Ohio are two different “animals”. Detox is not rehabilitation and rehabilitation is not detox. Together, they can provide a lucrative solution to long term sobriety for those addicted to drugs or alcohol. The difference in the two is clear: Detox is a short term, medically assisted solution to rapidly cleansing the body of a foreign, unwanted substance. Since withdrawing from any type of substance can be extremely difficult due to the brain chemical changes that are rapidly taking place, the medication offered by a detox program can make these changes easier for an individual trying to kick the habit. Rehabilitation aims to hold fast the gains that were made during detox. After detox, a person who was previously addicted to a substance can be officially be labeled physically “clean” from their habit, however; addiction is as much mental as it is physical. Rehabilitation is a counseling program that helps the physically “clean” individual learn skills and steps to take to stay clean after returning to society. There are many who return to detox over and over again because they are not addressing the root cause of their addiction. Someone who continues to detox and relapse should consider supplementing their recovery with a rehabilitation program.

Detox and rehabilitation take many forms. Individuals looking to attend a program will have a better chance of success if they do some research in finding a program that suits their specific needs. Ohio offers inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, holistic treatment, and faith based treatment to facilitate all types and levels of addiction.

Faith based treatment in Ohio is a type of treatment that places special emphasis on counseling and spiritual development, rather than relying purely on medication for detox. A faith based center believes that the root cause of addiction is a lack of commitment to faith, and once the addicted individual chooses God over substance, detox and ultimate rehabilitation will simply be a bi product of that new found relationship. Those who attend a faith based organization will be sure to receive great counseling and meet many new friends along the way. Faith based groups, like other types of treatment, have been shown to have good results, however; at the end of the day, it is still up to the addict to decide whether or not they will change.
